AHPC Vaginal pH Rapid Test – Vaginal Discharge Self-Test

The AHPC Vaginal pH Rapid Test Panel is a self-test designed for the semi-quantitative measurement of pH in vaginal swab specimens. The test may assist in identifying an abnormal vaginal pH level that could require further assessment by a healthcare professional.

Directions for use

1. Allow the test and swab to reach room temperature before testing.
2. Wash your hands, remove the swab from its pouch and do not touch the swab head.
3. Gently insert the swab approximately 5 cm into the vagina and press it against the vaginal wall for approximately 10 seconds.
4. Remove the swab and wipe it across the pH test area at least five times.
5. While the measurement area is still wet, compare its colour with the colour scale on the foil pouch.

Interpreting the result

• Normal range: Vaginal pH from 3.8 to 4.4.
• Abnormal range: Vaginal pH above 4.4 or below 3.8.

Important information

An abnormal pH result does not by itself confirm bacterial vaginosis or another infection. Some circumstances, including menopause, menstruation, sexual intercourse and the use of certain vaginal products, may affect vaginal pH and lead to an abnormal or false result.

Do not use the test during menstruation, within three days after the end of a period, within 48 hours after sexual intercourse or douching, or within 72 hours after using vaginal preparations such as creams, gels, contraceptives, antifungal products or suppositories.

This test is not intended to detect sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, chlamydia, herpes, gonorrhoea or syphilis. Discuss abnormal results or ongoing symptoms with a healthcare professional before beginning treatment.

For self-testing in vitro diagnostic use only. Single use only. Store sealed at 2–30°C. Do not freeze.
